Renassist
Renassist is a service dedicated to helping patients determine how they can best access Renagel through their current health insurance.
Service Features and Facts:
- Provides comprehensive reports outlining patients' prescription benefits through either a retail or mail-order pharmacy
- Supports the appeal process for patients whose insurance benefit limits use or does not cover Renagel
- Obtains prior authorization for Renagel, if necessary, to facilitate prescribing
- Acts in accordance with patient privacy regulations (HIPAA) to maintain patient confidentiality
- Offered at no cost
- Insurance benefits verified for more than 60,000 patients.

Renagel Medicare Part D Assistance Program
As of 2009, all Medicare Part D assistance provided by Genzyme will be in the form of Renvela® (sevelamer carbonate), the next generation of Renagel. Please go to Renvela.com for further product information and to access 2009 Medicare Part D Assistance Program details.
Genzyme is working with physicians to transition all remaining US patients on Renagel to Renvela by September 30, 2009. Renvela is widely available through the majority of commercial insurance and Medicare Part D plans.

Renagel® (sevelamer hydrochloride) is indicated for the control of serum phosphorus in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) on dialysis.
- Renagel is contraindicated in patients with hypophosphatemia or bowel obstruction.
- Caution should be exercised in patients with dysphagia, swallowing disorders, severe gastrointestinal (GI) motility disorders including severe constipation or major GI tract surgery.
- Common adverse events reported with Renagel include vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, and constipation.
- Other events reported include pruritus, rash, fecal impaction, and intestinal obstruction.
- Drug-drug interactions may occur with some medications and should be taken into consideration when instructing patients how to take Renagel.
- Patients should be informed to take Renagel with meals and to adhere to their prescribed diets.
